What is the Northern California Shambhala community?
We all belong to a Shambhala Center or Group in our home area that together forms the community of Northern California Shambhala. Our vision is to create a cooperative regional community that supports one another and comes together to make meaningful contributions to the larger communities where we reside. We support each other in working with the Shambhala Buddhist teachings to lead kind and dignified lives. We work genuinely with who and what we are. Our meditation practice helps sharpen our mindfulness and awareness which we then apply to our lives. We work together to integrate and apply the Shambhala teachings into all our community activities.
Northern California Shambhala is unique in that we have seven meditation centers and three meditation groups all within a few hours of one another. This close proximity has allowed us to develop a regional governance structure which increases cooperation, broadens our view, and helps us function together better. Organizing regionally means that we do not just rely on one central international office, but on a regional office that provides local services. Northern California Shambhala is one of the few functioning regional sanghas in the entire international community.
Our regional headquarters and Shambhala Meditation Center is located in downtown San Francisco. To read more about our center, click here.
This is an exciting time of change and growth in our region. We welcome all who wish to join us in an effort to realize enlightened society in Northern California and beyond
