Giving
Generosity is very important in Buddhism. In Sanskrit there is a word, dana, which at its Indo-European root is related to "donation". Dana is generosity, or giving in. Dana is also connected with devotion and the appreciation of sacredness. Sacredness is not purely a religious concept alone, but it is an expression of general openness - how to be open, how to kiss somebody, how to express the emotion of giving. You are giving yourself, not just a gift alone. So real generosity comes from developing a general sense of kindness. - Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche
The Northern California Ziji Initiative
Dear Sangha Members and Friends: We are asking for your support for the Northern California Ziji Initiative.
What is the Ziji Initiative?
A funding campaign to support realization of the Sakyong's vision in Northern California. This is the vision of our lineage: to encourage widespread confidence in the basic goodness of all beings.
What will the money be used for?
The fund will be used for two purposes:
First, it will provide support for Sharchen Dzong. While San Francisco Shambhala Center generously provides the base for our regional Dzong, the costs associated with the Tantra Shrine Room and Tenno Room on the second floor are covered entirely by donors who make contributions of anywhere from $5 - $1,500. By making a monthly contribution or one-time gift you can help contribute energetic support to the Sakyong's seat on the West Coast.
Second, it will help fund ongoing activities that strengthen Shambhala's visibility and presence in Northern California. These include regional publicity and communications, coordination, training, conferences, teacher visits, and more. One exciting new regional project is a grants program for sangha groups engaged in bringing Shambhala wisdom into our workplaces and communities in innovative ways. For example, one center is developing a model for providing free meditation instruction to the employees and volunteers in social service organizations.
How do I support the Ziji Initiative?
There are two ways: You can become a sponsor for any amount from $5 to $108 or more monthly -- or give a onetime donation. Please see the options below to make a tax-deductible donation in either of these ways.
Whether or not you are able to contribute monetarily to the Ziji Initiative at this time, we invite you to offer the incomparable richness of your love and aspirations for Shambhala by clicking here.
All donors will receive a gift as our way of saying "thank you" for supporting The Ziji Initiative of Northern California. See your choices below.

About Us
Northern California Shambhala is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization. Your contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.
We are dedicated to creating enlightened society using the tools of mindfulness, awareness, and unconditioned confidence. These inherent qualities are cultivated through meditation practice, by studying the Shambhala Buddhist teachings, and by taking part in the Shambhala community. We then apply what we have learned to our everyday lives at work, at home, with our families, and in society as a whole.
We are supported by the generosity of volunteers, donations and membership contributions.
We are sincerely grateful for every offering we receive.
Thank you so much for your generosity!
